The Town of Viola will be having a community yard sale on Saturday September 19th from 8am-1pm. All are welcome to participate.

Notice Regarding Yard Waste Dumpster 8/26/2026
Dear Residents,
Recently, you may have noticed that the yard waste dumpster located on town property on East Howard St. has been removed. Due to abuse and improper use of this dumpster, measures were taken to remove the dumpster temporarily.
This yard waste dumpster is intended to provide the tax-paying residents within the corporate limits of Viola a dedicated avenue to remove true yard waste. There have been recent instances of our dumpster being used to put fully grown trees that are two feet in diameter and in excess of 10 feet. We also have seen large bushes/limbs that stick out of the top of the dumpster. The waste company requires that the contents not exceed the top of the dumpster, which requires attention from the town council to climb into the dumpster to trim the limbs off. Residents have also volunteered the use of their own machinery to try to compress the contents to better utilize the space, however it does not work if the waste is abnormally large. All of this has caused the dumpster to fill inefficiently and prematurely and become a financial burden for the town that far exceeds the budget for this service.
We have also been made aware of people that are outside of the corporate town limits utilizing the dumpster. This only hurts the tax-paying residents and increases the cost to the town.
To combat this, we’re instituting new rules for the yard waste dumpster. We have also installed cameras to capture vehicles using the dumpster. Any violators will be subject to prosecution. Please note that we still want to continue to provide this service but need your cooperation in order to do so.
Rules of Engagement:
- DUMPSTER USE IS FOR TAX PAYING RESIDENTS OF THE CORPORATE TOWN OF VIOLA ONLY
- NO PLASTIC BAGS
- NO GARBAGE OR TRASH
- YARD WASTE ONLY (LEAVES, BRUSH, BRANCHES, GRASS)
- BRANCHES SHOULD NOT EXCEED FOUR FEET IN LENGTH OR FOUR INCHES IN DIAMETER
- NO TREES (CALL A TREE REMOVAL COMPANY)
- NOTHING SHOULD EXTEND BEYOND THE TOP OPENING OF THE DUMPSTER

Council (Board of Commissioners) by the deadline did not exceed the number of positions that are expiring.
Therefore, an election is NOT required.
The next regularly scheduled Town Meeting will take place Tuesday, April 14th, 2026, at 6:00pm at the Viola Town Hall located on Church Street. See the “Meetings and Events” page for more details.

Town of Viola Christmas Decorations Contest
It is that time of year to LIGHT UP Viola for the Holiday Season. The attached flyer provides information regarding the annual Christmas Decoration Contest.
December 4 – registration deadline. Register online at violadelaware@gmail.com. You will receive a reply that your registration was received.
December 11 – Judging by Town Council. Have outside lights on at dark.
December 18 –Winner announced at the Holiday Social at Town Hall at 4:00 pm. Come enjoy hot chocolate, cookies and Christmas Carols. Everyone is welcomed to attend the Social.
